Author Bio:
Rochelle grew up dreaming up stories. When she entered high school, she tucked away her creative side and jumped head-first into academics, work, and service projects. She graduated summa cum laude with a degree in Political Science and Communication when she was twenty years old. After years away from her writing, Rochelle picked up a pen and started fleshing out a character sketch that she outlined when she was twelve. That sketch was the start of the Ashes and Ice story. Rochelle lives in the DC metro area with her husband and daughter. By day she works as a behavioral therapist. By night, she is a dreamer and is busy tapping out new stories on her keyboard.

Excerpt #1
Jade
The girl’s glassy, dead eyes stare into me, through me, pierce me with a fierce urgency, with a wicked accusation. The blood is still on my hands.
Red hair, blue eyes, a constellation of freckles on pale skin. She was fragile and innocent, a lovely thing. That is what I think until I see the gashes on her wrists and throat. With her blood spilling out, she looks delicious. She’s mine. Possessiveness shocks me, stabs into me. I run, tearing away from a craving I don't understand.
Breathless, I grit my teeth and run harder, faster.

My feet pound against the earth, away from the lifeless body and toward the lights of the city lingering on the horizon. Rot and death linger in my nostrils. Unscarred skin stretches taut over my freezing bones. Echoes of an empty memory reverberate in my mind, taunting me. The ice chases me, clutches me, and bites at my heels, sending shivers up my spine. The ice wants me back, but I run forward, toward the lights, toward the heat, toward a world that burns me, because I have no other choice.
The lights are so close. Heat scalds my skin.
Images race through my mind, paralyzing me. I skid to a stop, my boots digging into the mud. The vision’s blurred edges materialize into solid shapes.
             I gasp.
A new horror rakes my insides. Desperation propels me forward; the pictures nagging at my seams threaten to tear me apart.
Scorching fire licks over my skin. In my vision, I contort like a vile, ugly creature, eyes as black as decay. My frame hunches over the small, dead girl, like a demon looming over a defenseless child. Her blood drips from my mouth.
I lick my lips and taste only salty sweat.
I run, desperate to trample the vision under my feet, to crush it deep into the ground.
I refuse to believe the image, refuse to acknowledge the monster within me demanding to be unleashed—and the possibility it has already been unbound. An unrelenting tide of fear washes over me. Past the denial, the fear, and the hope, I think I can still taste her.
The cold stillness inside me cracks open just as the lights of the city slam into me.

Excerpt #2

Connor
Tears burn. I never realized it before, but they do. Tears reach down my throat and settle in my gut until the pain cripples me. I clutch my stomach as I look into the casket. His face doesn’t even look the same. Bloated like a Mardi Gras float, discolored like a mannequin. This isn’t my father.
            But it is.
If I have learned anything in my short life, it is this: funerals are bullshit. People dress in carefully pressed black suits. Parents give me “meaningful” nods as if that could ease the grief. It doesn’t.
Then there are the kids from school, the ones dragged along by their parents. People drag their kids along as if filling the church was a necessary thing. As if the more pews filled somehow expedite the dead’s trip to heaven. I doubt it does. Maybe some of the girls went shopping to buy just the right outfit so their cleavage to respectability ratio was just right, or  their ass to waist ratio was cinched properly.
People sit in the pews dressed in their finest let’s-go-pay-our-respects-to-the-dead-guy-we-never-knew wear, smacking the gum in their mouths, cupping cellphones so they can LOL any comment  buzzing in, and drumming their fingers because the pastor is going on too long.  All they want to do is go home, sneak in a make-out session with their girlfriends, eat their dinners, and maybe catch a 7 o’clock movie.
I hate these kids. The ones who stare at me, roll their eyes, and yawn. The ones who trip me at school and slam me into lockers. The ones who sit in a pew, contributing to the headcount, while I sit up here in front, holding back the tears fighting to make their appearance. I swallow them down. I won’t cry. Not here. Not with these people.
Dad’s funeral should be an empty church with mom, his three brothers, and me. It should be the five of us having a messy, sloppy, sobbing affair where we cling to each other because we are all we have left. The marble floors should be slick with our tears. It isn’t. We sit here, straight backed, completely composed as if death is just a passing expiration date and our small, insignificant world has not been split open and left gaping.
***
I’m in my room, staring at the ceiling. The funeral service was hours ago.
The house feels empty and cold. I hear a stifled whimper from down the hall.
            Mom.
Probably crying into a pillow so the house can’t hear, but it can. It seems unfair she can’t wail aloud, so loud  the house’s hundred-year-old studs tremble.
She doesn’t. I don’t either. We cry in our own rooms, remembering a man who will never be here again.
The house creaks. Maybe it feels the weight of our grief, maybe the floorboards are buckling because the burden is too heavy.
I ache, desperate to forget the long battle with cancer, the blood sputtering out of his mouth with his last words—what where they? I can’t remember because the fear in his eyes overshadowed anything he said. Now the loss. I don’t want to feel this loss. Some divine entity has taken dull scissors and cut out a piece of my life and now I have jagged scars to remind me I lost too much. Too much.
I want to forget, because it hurts to remember.
I bury my head in the pillow, hoping to suffocate the memories, to choke out the pain.

Excerpt #3

“Have you ever been in love?”
I spill my popcorn on my lap. “I, uh, what?” I say, swiping off the kernels. The question catches me off guard.
            “You know, in love.”
“No. No, I haven’t.” I shift on the couch, needing more space between us. “What about you?”
“Nah.” She flicks her hand toward me as if she is brushing away nonsense, but the hard look in her eyes says something different.
            “Why?”
She points to the TV screen and the couple making out there. “Figured if you had been, then you could explain that to me.”
The guy sweeps the girl up and carries her into bed before they… you know. “Uh, sex?”
She bursts out laughing. “That too. But I was talking about what  it feels like to be, you know, in love. Totally, without question. Like, does that,” she points to the screen again, “exist?”
“Yeah, I think it exists.” I think of mom and dad—the way they kissed every morning, hugged a few moments longer than anyone else, laughed so hard they cried, and cuddled, shutting out the world, looking more content than these fakers on the screen. “It exists. And in real life, it’s better than that crap.” I say, suddenly uncomfortable by the moaning coming from the TV.
“I thought you said you’ve never been in love?”
“I haven’t. But I’ve seen it. And I haven’t ever seen anything come close to that in the movies.”
She opens her mouth as if about to ask a question, but then closes it and smiles, accepting my answer. “Well, it’s good that there may be something in life to look forward to.” She drops a kernel of popcorn in her mouth.
            “May be?”
“Well nothing is guaranteed. Who knows, I may die an old spinster.” She’s smiling, but her eyes aren’t.
I think about the movie store guy’s possessive eyes, Jesse’s chair fiasco, and Dominic’s leering, my heart. “I doubt that.”

Excerpt #4

He smiles a bit wider and hands out the pin.
As, I reach to pluck it from his palm, he snatches my wrist with one hand, my bicep with the other and crushes me against his chest.
His grip is tight—too tight, it hurts—and the bend of him hovers over me, leaning in. I try to shake him off, but he doesn’t let go. I squirm as I feel his thumb trace circles on the inside of my wrist. The touch sends a skitter of sensation over me. Something tinges the air; a sweet, cool feeling brushes over my skin, making my knees want to buckle. He smells like mint, his breath tickles my face. I pull back, hating the sensations that please my skin and curdle my insides. Bile surges in my throat. I tear myself away from him, glaring.
“What?” He says coolly as if he hadn’t just bruised my arms with his clutching fingertips.
“That. Hurt.” I say. I don’t say he smells sweet or his breath is refreshing on my skin or his touch sends chills up my spine, delicious chills. I step away.
His smile is unnerving. “Don’t worry, Jade.” He winks at me. Damn that wink of his. “One day, you’ll like it.”

Review: I received this book free from the author in exchange for an honest review.
At first, I wasn't sure if I would like this book because it's a romance novel, or so I thought. This book is so much more than just a romance novel. It is perfectly written. I was in tears at one point. Throughout the whole story I was on the edge of my seat, yelling (in my head) at the characters. You get a feel for who the villain is, but then they do something to redeem themselves so you think " No, they can't be evil". Then BAMM!! Shit goes down. Your now at the end of the book left with the biggest cliffhanger ever, and know you know that you should have trusted your gut the whole time. Luckily for me, I had book two sitting next in line.
As for the characters, I really liked Nicole because she is a young, single mother who escaped an abusive relationship and  she is trying to give her daughter a great life regardless. At the same time, she pissed me off because if this book was a horror movie, Nicole would be the the one who goes into the haunted house even though there were signs and feelings not to. Dylan is the totally hot band God, who sleeps with every girl in sight. But he really surprised me the most. I really grew to like him, and it wasn't just for his god looks lol. I also really liked Brad, but I would have liked him better if he would have grabbed the bull by the horns right from the beginning instead of letting opportunity slip him by. But maybe by book two he will have grown some balls.
This is an awesome read for any bookworm as long as they are 17+ at least. There are some very graphic scenes. But this book was very well written and is defiantly a page turner. I'm so glad that I gave it a chance and I am starting book two as soon as I finish this review that's how bad of a cliffhanger it was.

Review: I received this book free from the author in exchange for an honest review.
This is the second book in the amazing series by Tiffany Carmouche. This books starts off exactly where book one left off, Thank God. If it's even possible, this book is even more intense than the first. It's such a crazy thrill ride and I never want to get off. It's more gruesome, it's fast- paced and heart pounding. It was such a rush! I actually liked this book better because you got three different POV's and the background for why each character did what they did and their thoughts behind it. Little tidbit of information, you can't trust anyone, everyone has a secret agenda.
Nicole is gain a great lead character. But in this book because of her "handicap" she is a totally different person (laughing so hard at my witty comment). I like her better now because she has nothing holding her back from following her dreams. Dylan is still a great guy, minus a few times of him being a complete ass, but I still love him. Especially since he is willing to do anything to be with the woman he loves. I also liked Brad better in this book. I love that we got his POV because it clears up my issues with him from book one. I still am holding out for him in the last book.
Another amazing book by the awesome author Tiffany Carmouche. She definitely has a knack for writing great books. I can't wait to read more books by her. and Hello??? What was that ending? Predictable but yet a cliffhanger!! I NEED book three NOW!!!

Review #83: Coexist- Julia Crane

(New Cover)
Title: Coexist
Author: Julia Crane
Pages: 236
Series: Keegan's Chronicles
Rating: 5/5 Stars
Review: This is the first novel in the Keegan Chronicles by Julia Crane. It is also the first book Julia Crane book that I have had the pleasure of reading. Although I do have almost every one of her books, but keep getting too busy to start them, until now. And honestly, I LOVED IT!!! this is my perfect kind of read. It has Elves! Which if you follow my reviews, I believe I have only read one other book featuring these creatures. So there are rather rare to me lol. Also, I liked how the author incorporated other types of paranormal creatures into the story as well. There was some insta- love, but if felt like the author redeemed herself by explaining the reason behind it.
The characters were awesome! I liked Keegan throughout the whole book but I feel like I may like the "new" her better and I can't wait to read more about her. I think Rourk is a great guy. He is very disciplined and is a great protector of Keegan. I'm excited to see how he handles the "new" Keegan, and the lengths that he will go to prove himself to her. I also found Thaddeus to be a fun character to read about. Even though he is young he carries a huge weight on his shoulders. He is one of the greatest assets and has one of the toughest abilities for an elf. I can't wait to read to short story on him. Also I want to read the spin- offs ASAP too!
Coexist is definitely one of my favourite books that I have read this year and I'm sure the Keegan's Chronicles will be on my best series list for the year too! Julia Crane has proven herself to be an author to watch out for, and that was just after the first book! I would recommend this book to people who love the paranormal or those who want to give elves the shot they deserve.

Blog Tour Review and GIVEAWAY: Digitus 233- K. D. Emerson

When Zeph, the adventurous son of a millionaire hid in the cargo hold of the Learjet carrying his brother Zander to camp he had no idea there was anything dark or ominous going on. That was until he watched Zander ejected from the plane onto a barren arctic island and Zeph found himself headed for South America. Will Zeph be able to uncover the truth behind Digitus, the world’s dominant corporation or will they succeed in their sinister plan to control his brother and destroy the world?

Excerpts:

Transfixed in place, Zeph watched as four teenagers shot out into space and then one more time the door in the ceiling opened. He recognized his brother Zander as the airplane seat came through the opening and then propelled out into the blue and white sky. Whoa, how crazy is that? The Fantastic Four and my older brother just shot out of a perfectly good Learjet. In shock, Zeph stood staring numbly at the floor of the tube. Wait! That’s not normal! He slammed his hands against the tube and then froze in place; his mind whirled in panic. What kind of crazy camp was this? He understood survival camps, but this was nuts.
His heart thumped madly in his chest, pumping blood to his throbbing head. I have to do something! He forced himself to think. Those seats had to have parachutes. Obviously they weren’t killing those kids… were they?

*****
A blood curdling scream ripped through the air. Jackson was on his feet and out of the cave before the rest of them had time to look up. Zander followed Lana; with Quinton right behind. They tore off up the snow bank. Jackson crested the rock outcropping and disappeared behind it. Zander felt his feet pounding beneath him, slipping and sliding on the ice. He left Quinton behind and passed Lana swiftly. In the distance he saw Google backing away from a large white bulk.
Polar bear!

*****
“Hold on to each other,” he screamed at Google and Lana. Pointing and motioning for them to wrap their arms around each other, he then pointed to Quinton and Zander, who both lay on the bottom of the boat, unconscious. “Hold onto them! Keep your feet pressed against the walls. If we get tossed out, it’s over.” His muscles were quivering from the tension of pressing his arms and legs against the walls of the boat, but he knew if he relaxed the next wave would devour them and send them to an icy death. Sheets of rain pelted against his back. It wasn’t rain so much as buckets of water tossed at them by angry gods. Blackness threatened to consume him. He had to hold on. He had no experience or knowledge of the sea. He had no clue how long this could last. All he knew was that if he passed out, they were all dead. The girls didn’t have the strength to keep themselves inside this retched boat.

*****

Bushy Brows, the man they called Klaus, looked up at the computer team. “Switch to live streaming on the Arctic Ocean, please.”
“The last team has experienced several setbacks. They have been traveling southwest in what appears to be a life raft cut out of a large chunk of ice.” The overhead voice continued in a monotone as the screen displayed a small boat bobbing up and down in the black water. Zeph counted five bodies in the bottom of the boat. Four of them huddled around a fifth body that was laying still. Too still.
“Very creative. We’ve never had a group try escape by water before.”
“Yes. The leader has slipped into unconsciousness probably from shock or infection from the wounds inflected by the bear. They also got tossed around by a mild storm for awhile, but they managed to pull through it. There is a vessel on its way to intercept the life raft.”
“How long?”
“Should be any time now.”
“Have we been in contact with the leadership in Russia?”
“We’ve had communications. They should have had time to alert the submarine about protocol by now.”
“Is the Miller boy going to make it?”
“Hard to say at this time.”
The Miller boy, the Miller boy? That was Zander! Why are they talking about him like he was a dry goods shipment? Zeph squinted to get a better look at the people down in front.
“Be a shame to lose that one,” the silver haired man stated.
“Right, we’ve invested a lot of money in him,” the female agreed.

*****

They turned to gaze at the ocean once more. The sound of the rolling waves settled around them.
“Isn’t this breathtaking?” She leaned into Zander. “I honestly thought we were going to die on that island.”
“There were times I wanted you to die on that island.” Zander grinned.
“Yeah, I was a beast, wasn’t I?” She batted her lashes and ran a fingernail along his neck.
Zeph rolled his eyes. The world is being taken over by madmen and these two are out here auditioning for a soap opera.
Zander cupped her face in his hands.
“Pssst!”
“What was that?” she asked. “I heard something.”
“I didn’t hear anything.” Zander leaned down.
“PSSST!”
“That! Zander, I think there’s someone watching.”
“You scared I’m gunna take a bite outta ya? Too many vampire movies, Lana.” Zander pulled her closer.
“Zander!” Zeph hissed.
Zander stopped and looked over. Zeph waved a palm frond.
“Lana, stay here.” Zander walked forcefully. “Quinton, if that’s you, I’m going to rip you apart.”

Review: I received this book free from the author in exchange for an honest review.
I don't know how I feel about this book. I didn't love it, but I didn't hate it either. It was just okay for me. I think that the part that wasn't my style was all the talk about conspiracies, it was lost on me. Eventually I did start to get into the book. This novel is a quick and easy read, but I do feel like there were a lot of unanswered questions and secrets that i will read the second book just to find out the conclusions.
From what I saw of the characters I did like them. They fit their individual roles well. This will make more sense once you get to the end of the book. I liked how we learned a little bit about each character, and have just enough information on them to peak interest in that character. I think my favourite character was Crazy Dude, he seemed like a really fun "guy" and I can't wait to see more of him. I feel that once I know about each character i cold grow to like them more.
Overall, Digitus 233 was a good read. I feel that the second book will be even better than the first, especially after that cliffhanger. I actually thought that my Kindle messed up because it ended right in the middle of a sentence. I will most likely read book two to see what happens with that. I would recommend this book to those big on conspiracy theories.
