Excerpt

I ran so fast I felt one with the wind. I couldn’t get out of there fast enough. Sooner or later my mother would track me down but until then I’ll enjoy myself. As I entered the arcade I heard my name.
“Yo, Eden.”
“Eden! You escaped.”
I smiled as I saw my friends approach. “Yeah I escaped the clutches of the evil demon.”
“You shouldn’t joke about that stuff, it could be real,” said Zoe innocently. Zoe was my best friend and still an innocent. Her boyfriend Mike thought he understood all. Even though they were Nephilim too, I couldn’t let them learn who my father was.
“It is real, Zo. If there are angels, there are demons. You can’t have one without the other.”
“Who says?” I defended as I retrieve the air hockey puck out of the slot and place it on the table. It begins sliding around in a small circle, waiting for me to hit it.
“Says I.” Mike took the position opposite me and waited. I narrowed my eyes and glared at him. Zoe always says I do this thing with my eyes that could make every boy swoon, but I don’t believe it. How could one person’s eyes make someone swoon? As I wacked the air hockey puck, Mike seemed distracted by something, so the puck sailed straight down into my goal at his end. The electronic voice announced the score to be one nil and that seemed to break his reverie.
“Mike, what happened? You were totally out of it.” Zoe placed a hand on his bicep.
“No, I wasn’t.”
“Yes, you were. You totally let Eden win.”
“It was just a lucky shot,” I said in defence. I couldn’t let them think that somehow I had something to do with Mike’s off-with-the-faeries moment. Did I? It couldn’t be possible. I didn’t just cause Mike to space out and act as if he and I were the only ones left on earth? Did I?
“That never happens, baby.”
“Okay, maybe this turn will be better.” Mike retrieved the puck out of the slot on his side and placed it on the table, ready to hit. I stood ready, but this time I was the distracted one. I couldn’t get the feeling out of my head that I had revealed one of my powers to him. My mother said to never do that. But was it even one of my traits? The air hockey puck sailed straight under me and landed in his goal. One- all.
“Oh yeah!” Mike hooted, but I didn’t feel like partying anymore. I walked away from the table.
“Oh, what’s the matter, Eden, afraid of being beat?”
“No, I just don’t feel like playing anymore.”
“Oh, come on! We were right in the middle of a game!”
I walked away ignoring their pleas as the allure of the hoop game called me over. I had just pushed a token in the slot and picked up a ball, when I heard my name. But it wasn’t from Mike or Zoe.
“So this is where you spend your runaway hours?” I glanced over my shoulder and saw the creep standing behind me.
“Who are you and what do you want?”
“Don’t you see the family resemblance?” he smirked.
I turned to take a good look at him, intrigued. The guy had to be about my mother’s age, maybe a little older and had the same grey- blue eyes my mother has.
“Uncle Adam?”
“In the flesh. Now lets get out of here.”
I chuckled as I turned back around and threw a ball at the highest scoring hoop. It went in. “I am not going anywhere with you.”
Adam clapped. “Good shot. But its not surprising, seeing whose blood you carry in your veins.”
“Do you mean yours and Mum’s, or…”
“Lakyn’s?” He finished for her. “Either way, you have so many abilities you are not even aware of, Eden. And some of them are quite dangerous.”
“How do you know this?”
“I was there from the moment you were born. Trust me, I know.”
I tossed another ball in, this time in a lower scoring hoop and it went in as well. “I’m still not going with you.” As I picked up a third ball and pushed it towards the hoops, it froze mid- air. I gasped and looked back at my uncle. He shrugged.
“Game over.”
As he walked away, the ball remained frozen.
“Wait, how did you do that?” I asked, glancing back and forth from the ball to him.
“If you come with me, I’ll tell you.”
“My mother sent you, didn’t she?”
“She might have.”
“So what you just did, can I do that?”
“Everyone’s traits are different, but probably. If you come with me, you can find out more.”
“I can’t just leave my friends.”
“Yes, you can. You can always make new friends.”
I stopped walking and looked at my friends playing the Daytona. Mike was showing Zoe how to drive, which was really cute. And then I looked at my uncle, waiting patiently outside the mouth of the arcade by a black town car. If I stayed, I would never know what my traits would be, I would never learn how to use them. But I would be a normal teenager, going to school and hanging out at the arcade with her friends. If I went with my uncle, I would no longer be normal. I wanted both lives. But the idea of having amazing powers intrigued me most. In the end I chose door two. Looking back I regretted leaving my friends. But I knew they would never understand. I knew deep down that I was made for a higher purpose.

Review: I received this book free from the author in exchange for an honest review.
I just want to say that I think this is one of my favourite covers! It's perfect and I love purple! I enjoyed this novella because it was a mixture, it combined angels, demons and mythology! I found that to be pretty cool and make for a great read. I did find a few areas that were confusing I think if there had been a little bit more detail I wouldn't have been confused.i liked the little bit of romance even though it was insta- love. I found the characters fun to read about and I want to learn more about them. I want to know more about the villain and their motives and the outcomes. Besides being a bit confusing I found The Garden of Eden to be an interesting read.
I'm going to go out on a limb and say that this is my favourite story by L.L. Hunter to date despite being tricked into thinking this was a full length novel. The story just grabbed me and I look forward to reading more in the series. I would recommend this novella to both angel and demons lovers and to those who enjoy mythology.

At first he doesn’t take their threats seriously, but then his tires are slashed, someone tries to poison him, and one of the girls turns up dead. Josh doesn’t know who to trust, but one thing is certain. It definitely isn’t worth the price he’s paying to be a player.

Rating: 3.5/5 Stars
Review: I received this book free for the author in exchange for an honest review.
At first I wasn't sure if I would like this book (I may have judged it by the cover), but having read two of the three book in her Dark Musicals trilogy I decided to give it a try. It was a pretty good story, there was a lot going one to make the mystery. I did guess who was the "bad guy" about halfway into the book, but obviously I had to read it to make sure I was right haha, I was. I did get tripped up once with wording and changed my mind, but quickly realized I was right the first time. This novel is classified under romance but I disagree, it's definitely more mystery/ thriller. There wasn't very much romance to it at all. About as much as you would expect from a teenage player lol. I did find the plot similar to Laura DeLuca's Dark Musicals trilogy.
The characters were good, I just wished that they had been more developed. I felt like I didn't really know anything about them .also I would have liked to get to know more about the past relationships between the characters.like I said earlier I had guessed who the villain was but I liked watching them act innocent and I liked watching the mystery unfold. I really want to read more about the characters after the book ended. Maybe a spin- off lol.
This book was pretty good. If you have read Laura DeLuca books before you will notice the similaries and notice that this is her signature genre/ category. The characters were interesting but the plot was a bit predictable. I would recommend this book to mystery/ thriller lovers.

Excerpts:

Someone else came over to offer Nadine their congratulations, so Josh said goodbye and went to his locker to get his backpack. He figured he would meet up with Andrea and Rosa in the parking lot. He fumbled with the combination before finally getting the door to swing open. Something glittered on the top shelf and caught his eye. He reached for it, and a small scrap of paper fluttered to the floor.
At first he wasn’t sure what he was holding. It was a pink plastic tiara with some big gaudy plastic jewels. It was the type of thing he had seen in dollar stores for little girls’ birthday parties. It was practically broken in half, and the edges were sharp. Josh pricked his finger on the jagged point, and a few drops of blood welled from the small wound. He put his finger in his mouth as he bent to pick up the paper that had fallen. When he read it, the broken crown suddenly made sense and he wondered how he could have been so naïve. He should have realized from the instant he saw it what it meant.
“Josh decided to play around
Now one of his girls is under the ground.
Another has a big bump on her head.
And by the end of the dance, the queen will be dead.”

I wandered along a path as the sun began to set across the horizon, lighting the sky with deep hues of orange, purple and pinks. I didn’t know where I was, but the countryside was simply breathtaking.
“Angeline, where are you?” A familiar male voice called out.
“Come find me, Daniel,” she announced playfully, in the distance.
Finding no one else around, I decided to head their way to ask for directions.
“Where are you hiding, my love? You know I will find you; and when I do, I will smother you with kisses,” he responded, full of laughter.
Their voices led me to a beautiful meadow filled with spring flowers and the sound of a river in the distance. They were dressed in Victorian fare, running playfully until Daniel caught the girl who must have been Angeline. They fell to the ground together, laughing, near a tall tree.
As I walked toward them, I watched Daniel lean in to kiss Angeline softly on the lips, her hands circling around his neck and pulling him closer. I stopped in my tracks feeling like I had invaded a private moment, but I still needed directions in order to return home.
“Excuse me, I don’t mean to intrude but I could really use your help,” I stated softly, so not alarm them.
They continued, without even a glance my way. How rude. I cleared my throat loudly and spoke again, but no answer.
I was frustrated. How could they not hear me?
Suddenly, the landscape began to twist and shift into something dark and evil. I tried to turn and run but found myself unable to move. My heart began beating erratically as fear set in.
A tall figure appeared before me with ghostly shadows swirling and moaning around it. It was dressed in the darkest cloak I’d ever seen, with the hood draped in such a way as to cast shadows across the few visible areas of the face, making it impossible to see who or what it was.
An arm rose revealing long willowy fingers, aged and deformed and pointed at me. A sadistic female voice bellowed, “I warn you. Do not seek him out! The prophecy must not come to pass. If you defy me, I will make your life a living hell, taking all that you hold dear.”
That’s when the figure’s head tilted up and her glowing red eyes locked onto mine, sending a chill down my spine. Then the shadows began to swirl around my body, suffocating me.
“STOP!” The scream came from nowhere, catching me by surprise.
“LEAVE HER ALONE!” This time I recognized a man’s voice.
One of the shadows grabbed my arm and a piercing, “NOOOO” sounded, from deep within my chest, echoing off all that was around me.
My eyes shot open, as I bolted upright in bed. I looked around and realized I was in my bedroom.
I reached for the light. Turning it on, I tried to catch my breath. My only thought was that the dreams were back and they were worse. I’d seen a witch spirit previously, but not to this extent.
Wrapping my arms around my chest to calm myself, I felt a sharp pain on my right arm. I looked down to see the reddened hand print, where the dark shadow had grabbed me, slowly fading from existence. What the heck?

Purchase: Amazon

Synopsis via Goodreads:

On the picturesque island of Martha's Vineyard, there are two kinds of residents. Locals and Stays.

As the summer heat goes up on the island, so does the ante, when both Lane and Ashley must decide what they’re willing to wager in order to follow their dreams… and their hearts.

With stakes as high as the surf, and hopes as high as the midday sun, will they risk everything and go all in?

Excerpt:
Ashley
When we step outside of the ice cream parlor, Lane reaches over and wraps his hand around mine, making me feel warm all over, despite the cool breeze coming off the ocean.
We walk down the boardwalk hand in hand, our arms swinging between us, and I can’t stop my blush each time I catch Lane staring at me, and then giggle each time he catches me sneaking a glance at him too. Both of us with silly grins on our faces.
As we turn the corner, at the edge of the boardwalk, right in front of us is a perfectly preserved turn of the century carousel.
I gasp at its beauty. How have I never been here before? Although, a community carousel is the last place that my parents would ever think to bring us. A ride on a schooner is more their speed.
The carousel is covered in small bulbous lights that cast a warm glow over the richly colored horses, each with a different face and intricate carvings on their saddles. The sounds of children and parents laughing intertwine with the carnival style music coming from the ride, and I can’t stop myself from hopping up and down on the tips of my toes like a child.
Lane chuckles, gripping my hand tightly, as we watch the ornate horses spin around and around and up and down until he points at a big brass ring when it spins by. “If you can grab the ring the ride’s free. Come on.” He gives me a smile and like a couple of kids we run along the side of the carousel until we both grab hold of the ring and hoist ourselves up and onto the ride, laughing and out of breath.
I move to a stationary white horse wearing a deep red saddle and without saying a word Lane lifts me up, in one swift motion, and sets me down so I’m face to face with him riding sidesaddle. He grips the horse’s gold post with one hand, and I can’t help but admire his sinewy arms, lean and strong.
“You are so beautiful,” he says, looking into my eyes as he brushes his thumb against my cheek with his other hand. His sincerity takes my breath away.
I wrap my arms around his neck drawing him closer until he’s standing between my legs. His soft smile fades into a smolder as he leans forward, causing my breath to hitch with the anticipation of his lips on mine.
I close my eyes as he closes the short distance between us achingly slow. My heart skips a beat when I finally feel the warmth of his lips press against mine. He tastes like ice cream and smells like summertime, and I suddenly wonder if the swirling I feel is from the ride or from his kiss.
He pulls away slightly before wrapping his hand around the base of my neck and pulling me into his lips again, making me certain of one thing.
I’m swirling, and it’s definitely from his kisses.

Review: I received this book free from the author in exchange for an honest review.
I love this cover and how it ties into the Mythology aspects. I enjoyed how Hope's Decree was about the Pandora's Box myth because it is one that I haven't read about before. I did find the story to be a little jumpy at times which sometimes lead me to be a bit confused for a few paragraphs. Otherwise this was a great read and I'm excited for book two.
Obviously Trinity is a "goddess" who has not one, not two, but possibly three guys drooling over her. Geez. And not only that but they are all hotties! Even with the three of them vying for her attention she on,y has eyes for one, whether she wants to admit it or not. I loved Trin's sarcastic ways, it had me laughing a lot thoughtful the book. I liked the boys but they made me mad when she wasn't informed sooner about everything going on and what she was. I want a novella from Melina's POV because I want to know what to know what her deal is. Also I can't wait to see if Trinity's estranged grandparents play any role in her destiny.
This was a great read from Angela McPherson. I will be reading more from her in the future. I would recommend this book to mythology lovers and anyone looking for a funny and romantic read with a hint of action. Well actually quite a lot of action.

Excerpt:
Over an hour into my work out on the elliptical, sweat covered my brow and a few curls had broken free from my elastic band, making them stick to the sides of my face and forehead. When I grabbed a towel to wipe the sweat away, my legs felt wobbly and weak. I bought a bottle of water from a vending machine and headed out.
In the parking lot, I saw the sky had darkened considerably, elongating the shadows. As I walked back to my car I realized the birds in the nearby trees slowly became silent.
Stopping, I scanned the street. Not a single person was out. Even the cool breeze when I left the gym had stilled, almost as though everything had frozen in time.
Without warning, my stomach rolled. Almost instantly I felt nauseous as the familiar dread of darkness surfaced inside of me. The force became so overwhelming I doubled over, gasping for air.
As I focused on breathing, deep guttural laughter echoed in the stillness nearby. My head snapped up, my eyes searching for the man in my dreams. My brain worked in overtime, wondering how my dreams had finally crossed the barrier into reality.
The laughter came again, only closer this time. He wanted me, wanted me to surrender the light of life to dwell in the darkness of death. My panic increased as my heart thundered in my chest. I couldn't think clearly.
A few feet away, a man appeared, though he looked more or less the same age as me. Tall, well built with chestnut hair stopping at the hard angle of his jaw, and his eyes as black as a raven's feather. He didn't look like the same person from my nightmares. Not that it mattered–his presence still terrified me.
His lips twisted into a sinister grin, a mixture of evil and pain so clear I could taste it on my tongue. I tried to ease my panic and think clearly, but just like in my nightmares, I was losing.
"Who are you and what do you want?" Much to my surprise, my voice stayed even.
"You don't know, do you?" He tilted his head to the side, watching me with amusement in his dark eyes. He slowly held a finger in the air and then began making circular movements. The motion created his own personal whirlwind, lifting the hair around his face.
He continued to walk toward me, controlling the wind with his finger. My panic increased; my insides felt like they were being stretched thin, ready to snap in half at any given second.
"What do you want?" This time my voice quivered at the end.
"You have got to be kidding me, right?" He shook his head. "This is easier than I thought it'd be." He must have read the perplexed look on my face because he started laughing–hard. I would've been offended had I not been so freaking scared.
His thoughts and emotions become stronger with each step he took, overpowering my ability to shut off the inner darkness wanting to be set free. I wasn’t sure which way was up or down, left or right, and it didn't matter.

Teaser 1:
He leaned in close to my ear, and his hand grazed my thigh. "I forgot to mention this morning," he paused, letting enough time go by that my body caved and pulled toward him like gravity, "I plan on making sure you miss your dinner date with jock boy tonight."
